Abstract

Background: The relationship between the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of families in Şanlıurfa regarding the heel prick test and their health literacy levels is being investigated. Materials and Methods: The descriptive study was conducted with 116 parents who refused heel prick screening in Şanlıurfa province. In the analysis; descriptive statistics, univariate analyses (Mann Whitney-U, Kruskal-Wallis tests), Spearman Correlation test were used. Results: 36.2% of parents scored below the median on the knowledge assessment test, and 48.3% scored below the median on the behavior assessment test. 94.8% of families have inadequate health literacy levels. A positive, weak, and statistically significant relationship was found between the heel prick test information score and the attitude and behavior score (r=0.453, p<0.001). Conclusions: Parents' level of knowledge is related to the development of attitudes and behaviors. However, health literacy is not a determinant of knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding heel prick blood.

Özet

Amaç: Şanlıurfa ilindeki ailelerin topuk kanı uygulaması bilgi, tutum ve davranış düzeylerinin sağlık okuryazarlık durumları ile ilişkisi incelenmektedir. Materyal ve metod: Tanımlayıcı tipteki araştırma; Şanlıurfa ilinde topuk kanı taramasını reddeden 116 ebeveyn ile yürütülmüştür. Analizde; tanımlayıcı istatistikler, tek değişkenli analizler (Mann Whitney-U, Kruskal-Wallis testleri), Spearman Korelasyon testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Ebeveynlerin %36,2’si bilgi değerlendirme testinde, %48,3’ü tuttum ve davranış değerlendirme testinde ortanca puanın altındadır. Ailelerin %94,8’i yetersiz sağlık okuryazarlık düzeyindedir.
