Abstract

This study examines the impact of inclusive leadership characteristics on employee voice and analyzes employees’ perceptions of inclusive leadership and voice behaviors with and without managerial roles. This cross-sectional study was conducted between May and November 2022 at a 1010-bed state university hospital in Central Anatolia, Türkiye. Data were collected from 394 healthcare workers (HCWs) using a convenience sampling method. The questionnaire included socio-demographic and professional information, an inclusive leadership scale, and an employee voice scale. The data were analyzed using correlation analysis, chi-squared automatic interaction detection (CHAID) analysis, and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results of this study indicated that the openness, accessibility, and availability associated with inclusive leadership positively influence the voice behavior of HCWs. A positive correlation was observed between inclusive leadership and employee voice. Furthermore, employees in managerial positions exhibited higher perceptions of inclusive leadership and employee voice behaviors than non-managerial employees. This study highlights the importance of developing an inclusive culture in hospitals by recognizing and encouraging employee voice behaviors. By demonstrating openness, respect, and active listening, hospital managers can foster inclusion and ensure that their employees feel valued and heard. This study is among the few to explore inclusive leadership, employee voice, and healthcare workers’ perspectives at different hierarchical levels. In this context, our study extends the findings of previous studies.
