Abstract

Teaching is one of the professions that requires special specialization. Given the role and importance of the native language in an individual’s life, Turkish language teachers, who are responsible for fostering native language acquisition, must possess certain competencies. This research aims to examine the perceptions of Turkish teacher candidates regarding their professional competencies and to raise awareness of which sub-competences they have difficulty in, thus helping them eliminate their deficiencies in the pre-service period. The research was conducted as a case study using qualitative research methods. The participants consist of 28 teacher candidates studying in the 4th grade of Turkish language teaching. Data were collected with a semi-structured interview form. Data were coded and evaluated with descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that the awareness of teacher candidates regarding the competencies of knowing the subjects, being able to apply approaches, evaluating the results, being able to guide and act as a role model, and being prone to the profession was quite high; however, it was concluded that their awareness regarding the competencies of knowing their duties, rights and responsibilities, knowing the curriculum, coming to class prepared, providing an environment suitable for the criteria where the course can be taught, being able to use measurement and evaluation tools suitable for the skill area, socializing, communicating with parents, and respecting cultural values should be developed.

Özet

Öğretmenlik özel uzmanlaşma gerektiren mesleklerden biridir. Ana dilin bireyin hayatındaki yeri ve önemi göz önünde bulundurulduğunda ana dil edinimini geliştirmekle yükümlü olan Türkçe öğretmenlerinin belirli yeterliklere sahip olması gerekmektedir. Araştırmanın amacı Türkçe öğretmen adaylarının mesleki yeterliklerine ilişkin algılarını incelemek, hangi yeterliklerde güçlük yaşadıklarının farkındalığını kazandırmak ve böylece eksikliklerini hizmet öncesi dönemde gidermelerine yardımcı olmaktır. Araştırma nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden durum çalışması olarak yürütülmüştür. Katılımcılar Türkçe öğretmenliğinde 4. Sınıfta öğrenim görmekte olan 28 öğretmen adayından oluşmaktadır. Veriler yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile toplanmıştır. Görüşme sonucu elde edilen veriler kodlanarak betimsel analiz yöntemiyle değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda öğretmen adaylarının konuları bilme, yaklaşımları uygulayabilme, sonuç değerlendirmesi, rehberlik ve rol modellik yapabilme, mesleğe olan yatkınlık yeterliklerine ilişkin farkındalıklarının oldukça yüksek bulunmuş; görev, hak ve sorumluluklarını bilme, öğretim programını bilme, derse hazır olarak gelme, ders işlenebilecek kriterlere uygun bir ortam sağlama, beceri alanına uygun ölçme değerlendirme araçlarını kullanabilme, sosyalleşme, velilerle iletişim kurma, kültürel değerlere saygı duyma yeterliklerine ilişkin farkındalıklarının ise geliştirilmesi gerektiği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Lisans eğitiminin başlangıç aşamasında adaylara öğretmen yeterliklerinin sunulması alanında daha yetkin öğretmenlerin yetişmesini sağlayabilir.
