\r\n Erken 20.yüzyıl İstanbul-Suriçi sıbyan mektepleri ile ilgili daha önce bilinmeyen 1912-1914 tarihli bir müfettiş raporu temel alınarak yapılan bu çalışmada; öncelikle Osmanlı Dönemi sıbyan mekteplerinin kuruluşu, mekteplerin üzerine inşa edildikleri toplumsal, idari ve ekonomik yapı hakkında bilgi verilmiş, bu kurumların yönetim kadroları, müfredatları, eğitim ve öğretimin metodları ile personel konularına değinilmiştir. Söz konusu müfettiş raporunda yer alan İstanbul Suriçi Sıbyan Mekteplerinin tasnif edilmesi ile 113 adet sıbyan mektebinin mevkii, öğrenci adedi, vakıf türü, personel sayısı, derslik adedi gibi niteliklerine yer verilmiştir. Değerlendirme kısmında elde edilen veriler yorumlanmış, İstanbul Suriçi'ndeki sıbyan mekteplerinin 1912-1914 yıllarındaki durumu çeşitli yönleri ile tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.\r\n
