Abstract

Child bride, child groom, also known as early marriages; it is a product of the patriarchal and traditional society structure that continues in underdeveloped or developing countries. Individuals under the age of 18, whose psychological and physical development has not yet been completed, are under the responsibilities that they are not ready for with the decisions of the society and family elders. Factors such as educational status, socioeconomic status, legal gaps, and culture pave the way for early marriages. Children who marry at an early age are at greater risk for violence, abuse, inability to access contraceptive methods, unwanted pregnancies, and sexually transmitted diseases. The aim of this review study was to investigate the causes and drawbacks of early marriages for girls and boys, to evaluate the reproductive health problems caused by both genders, and to present solution proposals in line with the literature.
