Media text discourses which are created through gender roles cause women to be attributed dependent roles to men and increase violence against women as well as reinforce the patriarchal order.The reproduction of the dominant ideologies and the maintenance of this approach by the mainstream media is a subject that has been studied for many years.The purpose of this study is to interpret the online news texts about femicides in Hürriyet Newspaper with Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis. In this qualitative research, Halliday’s textual metafunction methodology within the scope of Systematic Functional Grammar Theory was used. Cognitive, discursive and social components of media texts were discussed with critical discourse analysis, and sentence structures were examined thematically with textual metafunctional analysis.The data were accessed from “http://anitsayac.com”database and the news between April 4, 2022 and April 28, 2022 were included in the analysis. Findings from critical discourse analysis determined that in certain news texts, the news has connotations in terms of discursive, cognitive and social aspects. Moreover, gender roles are reflected in the language of the news, the way of reporting and justification of violence is conveyed against women.

Toplumsal cinsiyet rolleri doğrultusunda yapılan haber söylemleri, kadınlara, erkeklere bağımlı roller atfedilmesine ve kadına yönelik şiddetin artmasının yanı sıra ataerkil düzenin de pekiştirilmesine neden olmaktadır. Kitle iletişim araçlarından anaakım medyanın egemen ideolojileri yeniden üretmesi ve bu anlayışı sürdürmesi uzun yıllardır çalışılan bir konudur. Bu çalışmada Hürriyet gazetesinde kadın cinayetlerine ilişkin çevrimiçi haber metinlerinin Van Dijk’ın eleştirel söylem çözümlemesi ile yorumlanması amaçlanmıştır. Nitel araştırma özelliğindeki bu çalışmada, Halliday’in Dizgeci İşlevsel Dilbilgisi Kuramı kapsamındaki metinsel üst işlev metodolojisi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın amacına uygun olarak eleştirel söylem çözümlemesi ile haber metinlerinin bilişsel, söylemsel ve toplumsal bileşenleri ele alınmış, metinsel üst işlev analizi ile cümle yapıları tematik olarak incelenmiştir. Araştırmada kullanılan veriler, “http://anitsayac.com” adresinden elde edilmiş ve bu veri tabanında 4 Nisan 2022 ve 28 Nisan 2022 tarihleri arasındaki haberler analize dahil edilmiştir. Çalışma bulgularına göre, eleştirel söylem analizi sonucunda bazı haber metinlerinde söylemsel, bilişsel ve toplumsal açılardan haberlerin yan anlamlar taşıdığı tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca cinsiyetçi roller haberlerin diline yansımış, şiddetin haber metinlerine aktarım biçimi ve gerekçelendirilmesi kadınların aleyhinde yapılmıştır.
