FEN VE MATEMATİK ÖĞRETMENLERİNİN BİLİMSEL MODEL HAKKINDAKİ GÖRÜŞLERİNİN İNCELENMESİ

Özet

Bu çalışma; ilk ve ortaöğretim fen ve matematik öğretmenlerinin bilimsel model hakkındaki görüşlerini tespit etmeye yöneliktir. Bu amaçla, 2010--2011 eğitim ve öğretim yılında Yozgat ili Sorgun ilçesinde görev yapan 41 fen ve matematik öğretmeni örneklem olarak seçilmiştir. Örnekleme; Likert tipi 30 sorudan oluşan bir anket uygulanmıştır. Sonuçlar öğretmenlerin model ve modellemenin doğası ile ilgili olarak bilgi eksiklikleri olduğunu göstermiştir. Öğretmenler bir modelin tam bir kopya olduğu şeklinde bilimsel olmayan bir anlayışa sahiptir, modelleri niceliksel ya da yorumsal tarzda kullanmamaktadır ve nelerin model olduğuna karar vermede sıkıntı yaşamaktadırlar. Bu nedenle, öğretmenlerin bilimsel bilginin oluşmasında büyük önemi olan modellerin doğasını daha yakından tanımaları ve öğretim programlarının model ve modelleme etkinliklerine daha çok yer vermesi gerekmektedir.

Abstract

This study is about to determine the views of elementary and secondary school science and mathematics teachers on the issues of what models and their roles are, why and how they are used. For this purpose, in 2010—2011 academic year, 41 science and mathematics teachers working in Sorgun, Yozgat were selected as the sample. A questionnaire consisting of 30 Likert type items was administered to this sample. Results have shown that teachers have lack of information on scientific model and its nature. Teachers have a limited understanding of models as thinking them of exact replicas; cannot use models quantitatively or interpretatively; and suffer in deciding what the model is. Therefore, teachers should get better acquainted with the nature of models, which is very important on the formation of scientific knowledge, and teaching programs should give more space to model and modelling activities.
