Abstract
People are confronted with many conflicts throughout their lives. One of the most important of these conflicts is the conflict between family members. These conflicts can be called “family conflicts”. These conflicts between family members can negatively impact the person's entire life. These conflicts and their negative effects can also be seen quite a bit in Thomas Bernhard's novel "Das Kalkwerk". With the analysis of the novel, it can be argued that the problems that Konrad had with his family during his childhood made him stay on the borderline between reason and insanity. Protagonist Konrad often mentions in the novel of his childhood and it is clear that the main reason for Konrad's misfortune in adulthood are the psychological traumas in his childhood. In the study, the conflicts between Konrad and his family were first formulated and their reasons given. In the next step, the effects of the conflicts on the life of Konrad were discussed. When reading about Bernhard's biography, one can notice that the writer actually reflects his own experiences in his true life in the novel. Due to the similarity between author and protagonist, the study required a comparison between Bernhard and Konrad. Finally, the most important message of this study is that a good childhood plays an important role in the future for a healthy and happy life.
