Çocuklara Yabancı Dil Öğretiminde Çizgi Romanların Kullanılması: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’nin “Küçük Prens” Örneği

Use of Comic Books in Foreign Language Teaching to Children: The Example of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's “Little Prince”

Özet

Resimli masal kitapları ve çizgi romanlar çocukların ilgiyle okudukları yapıtlar arasında yer alır. Çizgi romanlarda resimlerin çekici görüntüsünün metinlerle tamamlanmasıyla ortaya çıkan anlatı çocuklara eğlenerek öğrenme fırsatı sunar. Yabancı dil öğretiminde çizgi romandan faydalanmak hem ekonomik hem de pratik olmasından dolayı yabancı dil öğretmenleri ve öğrencilerinin işini bir hayli kolaylaştırmaktadır. Çizgi roman öğrencinin sadece sözel ifadelerinin gelişmesine değil, aynı zamanda yazma becerisi ve sözcük dağarcığının gelişmesine de katkı sağlar. Vücut dilinin sıkça kul- lanıldığı baloncuklar yardımıyla öğrenci ilk kez karşılaştığı ifadeleri daha kolay anlayabilir. Çizgi romanlar, yapımları gereği çok fazla görsellik taşıyan araçlar oldukları için iletilen konulardan çok bunların sunuluş şekilleri çocukları etkilemektedir. Bu yüzden yabancı dil öğretiminde de çizgi roman- ların kullanımı ayrı bir özen gerektirir. Çocukların daha önceden çizgi filmlerden ya da kitaplardan tanıdığı kahramanların hikâyelerinden faydalanmak öğrenme sürecine büyük katkı sağlayabilir. Bu yüzden bizde bu çalışmamızda Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’nin Küçük Prens adlı çizgi romanını çocuk- ların hikâyesine yabancı olmadıklarını düşünerek yabancı dil öğretiminde kullanılabileceğini göstermeye çalıştık. Çalışmada amacımız söz konusu çizgi romanın kullanımıyla öğrencilerin okuma, yazma ve konuşma becerilerinin nasıl geliştirileceği göstermek.

Abstract

Illustrated storybooks and comic books are some of the things children like to read. The story, which emerges with the attractive and playful aspect of the images of the comic strip, supplemented by the text, offers children, while having fun, the possibility of learning. The use of comics in foreign language teaching facilitates the work of learners and teachers because it is accessible, economical and practical. Comics not only contribute to the development of student's verbal expressions, but also contribute to the development of writing skills and vocabulary. Thanks to the bubbles in which gestures and facial expressions are used a lot, the student can more easily understand the expressions he encounters for the first time. Comics are productions that contain a lot of visuals in their creation. For this reason, their visual presentation rather than the subjects of the story affects children. The use of comics in the teaching of foreign languages must be considered as material requiring attention and care. Benefiting from the stories of heroes that children have already experienced from cartoons or comics can greatly contribute to the learning process. Thus, in this study, we wanted to study the use of the comic strip entitled The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in foreign language teaching, considering that children are no strangers to the adventures of the Little Prince. The purpose of this study is to highlight how to develop the reading, oral and written expression of students through the use of the mentioned comic strip.
