Abstract

Background: Surgical resection is the first choice of treatment in early-stage lung cancer. Video thoracoscopy Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) has limitations in surgery; therefore, Surgeon Powered Robotic Surgery (SPRS), a hybrid of robotic surgery and VATS, is recently preferred. This study describes a subxiphoid right upper lobectomy with SPRS technology. Case: A 63-year-old male patient under routine observation for 2 years because of a nodule was referred to our clinic because of a recently developed solitary pulmonary nodule located in the right upper lobe seen in a recent thoracic computed tomography (CT). The patient underwent subxiphoid right upper lobectomy with SPRS technology. A staging positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) was performed, and high FDG uptake was reported. Result: Due to technological advancements in minimally invasive surgery, the operations can be completed from smaller incisions than a thoracotomy. Subxiphoid resections can be more accessible while following the oncological principles when SPRS instruments are used.
