THE ROLE OF HADITHS IN THE ELIMINATION OF SOCIAL PROBLEMS: MEHMED ÂRIF BEY CASE

Özet

Müslüman toplumların maddi ve manevi yönden geri kalma sebepleri konusunda kafa yoran münevver devleti adamı ve düşünürlerden biri de ondokuzuncu yüzyılda yaşamış olan Mehmed Arif Bey’dir (ö. 1897). Osmanlı devletinin zayıfladığı bir dönemde ordu kâtipliği görevini sürdüren Erzurumlu Mehmed Ârif Bey, sonraki nesillere faydalı olacağını umarak Müslümanların geri kalma sebepleri konusundaki düşüncelerini kitaplaştırmıştır. Onun bu bağlamda kaleme aldığı eserlerden biri de Binbir Hadîs-i Şerif Şerhi ismiyle yayınlanmıştır. Mehmed Ârif Bey bu eserinde güncel sorunlarla ilgili seçtiği binbir hadisi gözlem ve tecrübeleri ışığında açıklamıştır. Müellif mezkûr eserinde Osmanlı devletininin zayıflayıp çökme noktasına gelmesinin sebepleri arasında eğitim sistemi yanında idareci ve ulema sınıflarındaki bozulmaları göstermiş ve bunlara yönelik eleştirilerde bulunmuştur. Ona göre eğitim ve yönetimden kaynaklanan toplumsal sorunların üstesinden gelebilmek için Müslümanların batılı filozoflar yerine İslam kültürü ile yetişen âlimler ve onlara ilham veren hadislere müracaat etmeleri gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada, Mehmed Ârif Bey’in hayatı ve eserleri hakkında kısaca bilgi verildikten sonra onun dönemin âlimleri, idarecileri ve eğitim sistemi başta olmak üzere toplumsal sorunlarla ilgili düşüncelerine yer verilmiştir. Mezkûr sorunların giderilmesinde Mehmed Ârif Bey’in hadislere geniş bir yer verdiği çeşitli örneklerle ortaya konulmuştur. Ayrıca onun kaydettiği bazı hadisler sıhhat ve kaynak bakımından değerlendirilmiş, müellifin rivayetlerini iktibas ettiği kaynak ile diğer hadis kaynaklarındaki metin farklılıklarına dikkat çekilmiştir. Bu çalışmada değerlendirmesi yapılan hadisler müellifin üzerinde fazla durduğu, düşüncelerini en güzel şekilde desteklediği en önemli sosyal sorunlarla ilgili rivayetlerden oluşmaktadır.

Abstract

One of the enlightened statesmen and thinkers who thought about the falling behind of Muslim societies in material and spiritual terms was Mehmed Ârif Bey (D. 1897) who lived in nineteenth century. Erzurumlu Mehmed Arif Bey, who had the duty of being the military clerk in a period when the Ottoman State was weak, collected his thoughts about the falling behind of the Muslims into a book for next generations. One of the books he wrote on this topic was published with the name “One Thousand One Hadiths”. Mehmed Ârif Bey explained the up-to-date problems in the light of the one thousand one Hadiths he collected by making use of his experiences. The author showed the education system and the disruptions in administrators and scholars as the reason of weakness and the collapse of the Ottoman State; and criticized them in his abovementioned book. According to him, Muslims had to refer to the scholars and the Verses of the Quran and the Hadiths that inspired them instead of referring to western philosophers to overcome the social problems stemming from education and administration. In the present study, after the life and works of Mehmed Ârif Bey are introduced briefly, his ideas on social problems, mainly on the scholars, administrators and education system of the period, are included. It was seen that Mehmed Ârif Bey gave a specific importance to Hadiths to overcome these problems. Some of the Hadiths he included in his book were analyzed in terms of accuracy and sources, and the differences in the text in Hadith sources which he referred were focused on. The Hadiths analyzed in the present study consist of the narrations about the social problems, which supported the ideas of the author and which were emphasized by him.
