Expectations of Preservice Social Studies Teachers from the Lesson of Teaching Practice and Fulfilment Levels of These Expectations

Özet

Öğretmenlik uygulamasında sosyal bilgiler öğretmen adaylarının beklentileri ve bu beklentilerinin nedüzeyde karşılanıp karşılanmadığını incelemek amacıyla bu çalışma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanınçalışma evrenini; 2010-2011 eğitim öğretim yılında Kırşehir Ahi Evran Üniversitesinde öğrenimgörmekte olan son sınıf öğretmen adayları, örneklemi ise Kırşehir Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretimBölümü Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalında öğrenim görmekte olan son sınıf öğretmenadayları(N=90) oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada, varolan bir durumu betimlemeyi amaçlayan taramamodeli bir çalışma yürütülmüştür.Araştırmanın verileri Likert tipi ölçme aracı kullanılaraktoplanmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin analizinde yüzde, frekans, aritmetik ortalama, t-testi ve Pearson’s rdeğerinden yararlanılmıştır. Bu değerlere göre, öğretmen adaylarının beklentileri ve bu beklentilerininkarşılanma durumları ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Cinsiyet ve öğretim türü değişkenine görebağımsız t-testine, bakılmıştır. Öğretmen adayları, öğretmenlerden, öğrencilerden, idarecilerden,danışmanlardan ve öğretmenlik uygulaması dersinden en yüksek düzeyde beklentilerle öğretmenlikuygulaması sürecine başlamaktadırlar Öğretmen adaylarının tüm alt boyuttaki beklentileri enyüksek düzeyde olmasına karşılık, beklentilerin karşılanma düzeyi beklenilenin bir alt düzeyindegerçekleşmiştir. Beklenti düzeyinin en yüksek olduğu alt boyut öğretmenlik uygulaması dersi iken,beklentilerin en az düzeyde karşılandığı boyut ise öğrenci olmuştur.

Abstract

This study was performed in an attempt to examine the expectations of preservice social studiesteachers in the context of the teaching practice and fulfilment levels of these expectations. While thepopulation of the study is comprised of the senior class preservice teachers receiving education atKırşehir Ahi Evran University during the school year of 2010-2011, the sample is comprised of thesenior class preservice teachers (N=90) receiving education in the Department of Primary EducationSocial Studies Teaching of Kırşehir Teachers College. A screening model study, which aims to describea present situation, was conducted in the research. The data of the study were collected via a Likerttypescale. Percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean, t-test and Pearson’s r value were used for theanalysis of the study data. According to these values, the expectations of preservice teachers andfulfilment levels of these expectations were tried to be revealed. The independent t-test was checked inaccordance with the variable of gender and teaching type. Preservice teachers start the process ofteaching practice with the highest levels of expectations from teachers, students, administrators,consultants and the lesson of teaching practice. Although the expectations of preservice teachers wereat the highest level in all lower dimensions, the fulfilment level of their expectations was recognised ina lower dimension than the expected. While teaching became the lower dimension with the highestlevel of expectation, student became the dimension where the expectations were fulfilled at the lowestlevel
