Abstract
The aim of this research is to show whether or not the children in pre-school ages, coinciding with the years of pre-operational period, understand the metaphorical concepts according to Piaget’s Cognitive Developmental Theory. For that reason, through the way of simple random samling, totally 65 children aged 5-6 and 7 years old were chosen from a primary school and from a nursery school in the center of the province of Denizli. The data were collected through questioning the metaphorical concepts determined by the researchers to the children one by one. The replies the children made for the metaphorical concepts, which are in the examples, were recorded and the replies the children made naturally were directly converted into the tables. At the end of the research, it has been discovered that together with the age, the understanding of the metaphorical concepts increases. Some metaphorical concepts’ being known by five year old groups of children is because of the fact that their usages at home are abundant.
