Özet
Engelliler, Türkiye’de nüfusun %12,3’ü oluşturmalarına rağmen topluma katılım konusunda sorunlar yaşamaktadır ve buna yönelik çözüm girişimleri de yetersiz kalmaktadır. Engellilerin sosyal rolleri ve statüsü üzerinden engellilere yönelik tepkiler ve girişimler ele alınacaktır. Engelliliğin sosyal bir olgu olarak ele alındığı bu makalede, engellilerin toplumsal yaşamdan dışlanma nedenleri ve diğer insanlar gibi “normal yaşam” sürmelerini sağlamak için öneriler sunulacaktır
Abstract
Although disabled people constitute 13.3 % of the Turkish population, they have a lot of problems about participating in social life. Moreover, attempts to solve these problems are not satisfactory. This paper will handle the reactions to the disabled and the attempts to normalize their lives by making use of the concepts of their “social roles” and “social status”. This paper, which regards disability as a social phenomenon, aims to reveal the reasons for the exclusion of disabled people from social life and to offer some suggestions as to enable them to lead a “normal life” like others
