Abstract
Psychological violence is increasingly spreading in all cultures depending on the increase in violence incidents. In this context, the purpose of this research is to expose the perceptions of university students about the concept of psychological violence with the help of metaphors. This research is based on the interpretive phenomenon science (phenomenology) pattern from qualitative research approaches. In order to elucidate the perceptions of university students about psychological violence, it is preferred to use easily accessible case sampling methods. The sample of this study is the student in the Social Services program in Eruh Vocational School of Siirt University. The gathering of the data was based on an open-ended question, "It's like psychological violence ......, because ..." the metaphor questioning pattern. In this study, the data were analyzed by content analysis method using the computer assisted qualitative data analysis program (NVivo). Based on the results of the content analysis, a total of 50 metaphors were obtained. As a result of the analysis of these mentioned metaphors, it was observed that the students produced metaphor in the most 'constraint' (n = 26) and at least 'hunger' metaphor (n = 2). According to results of content analysis conducted by sex, it was determined that female students produced the metaphor of iron cage (n = 6) and male students produced the metaphor of death most (n = 4). The results of the research show that metaphors can be used as powerful tools in bringing out the feelings and thoughts that students have about the concept of "psychological violence". In this context, in order to investigate the metaphorical perceptions related to psychological violence, different groups can be studied and contributed to the literature. In addition, in progressive studies, researchers will be able to understand the concept of psychological violence through films, videos, pictures, etc. that will increase social awareness. Use of visual elements is recommended.
