INVESTIGATING THE POTENTIAL OF CANALIZING THE CAR USERS COMING TO CITY CENTER INTO PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION

Özet

Plansız gelişen kentlerimizde, nüfus artışı, ekonomik ve sosyal gelişme ile birlikte, araç sayısındaki hızlı artış, ulaşım sorunlarının giderek artmasına yol açmaktadır. Bu durumun en önemli sebebi, otomobil öncesi düzene göre ve herhangi bir imar planı olmadan şekillenen kent merkezlerine büyük miktarda otomobil girişidir. Özellikle orta büyüklükteki kentlerimizde, kentin merkez bölgesi sosyal açıdan en çekici fakat ulaşım açısından en sıkıntılı bölgesini oluşturmaktadır. Dolayısı ile merkez bölgeyi kullanan ve uzun vadede kullanacak olan otomobil sayısının doğru bir şekilde belirlenmesi ve bu sayede kentsel ulaşımda alınması gereken tedbirlerin ortaya çıkarılması, sürdürülebilir ulaştırma açısından oldukça önemli hale gelmektedir. Bu çalışmada özel araç kullanıcılarının hangi şartlarda ve ne oranda toplu taşımaya kayabileceğinin belirlenebilmesi için izlenebilecek bir yol, matematiksel ifadelerle gösterilmektedir.

Abstract

In our unplanned developing cities, the rapid increase in the number of vehicles and population as well as economical and social developments cause transport problems to increase gradually. The most important reason for this situation is the automobile entry in large amounts to city centers which have been formed without any development plan and arranged with respect to the order of the period before automobile was invented. Especially in our mid-sized cities, the downtown area of the city is not only the most attractive zone of the city in terms of social activities but also the most depressed one in terms of transportation. Consequently, the determination of the number of cars that use the downtown area and that will use it in the long term and, in this context, the designation of the measures that are necessary to be taken in urban transport, are considerably important in terms of sustainable transportation. In this study, the method that can be followed for determining under which conditions and in which ratios the private car users prefer public transport is explained with mathematical expressions.
