Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine and compare the form, content and linguistic features of the Kurdish laments of the Caucasus and Mardin regions. In this context, many laments were obtained from written sources and field studies. These collected laments were compared and the common and different form, content and language features of the laments of both regions were determined. As a result of this comparison, in terms of form, it was seen that the Caucasus Kurdish laments were short and consisted of one stanza, but the Mardin region laments were long. It was seen that the laments of both regions were sung without measure, and there were elements of harmony such as rhyme, redif, assonance, alliteration and word repetition in their laments. In terms of content, many common topics and themes are covered, but each region has its own unique elements. In both regions, the laments were sung in Kurdish and the features of the local language were seen in the laments. Although the laments of the Mardin region seem richer in terms of literary arts, literary arts are also used in Caucasian laments and there are common phrases and metaphors as well as different ones in the laments of both regions.
