Abstract
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the Secondary Education English Course Curriculum (SEECC) (2014) in accordance with Eisner’s Educational Criticism Model. This study, which used Eisner’s Educational Criticism Model and which was based on expert opinions, is a descriptive survey model study and was conducted through the experts’ surveying documents. The study was based upon and compiled from the surveys of 11 experts regarding the curriculum. These experts are people whose undergraduate education is English Language Teaching or who have taken part in developing the curriculum for English. They have MA degrees in Curriculum and Instruction and either continue their doctorate studies or work as faculty members in universities. Data were collected from the experts through “expert assessment form”. The collected data were evaluated through content analysis. The results of the study suggest that English Course Curriculum can be evaluated under six themes. These themes are curriculum construction, bases of the curriculum, skills covered in the curriculum, curriculum support elements, curriculum inadequacies, and practicality of the curriculum. Expert feedbacks showed that the curriculum has aspects open to criticism as well as having a great number of strong dimensions. The criticized aspects of the curriculum should be used as feedback in the curriculum development cycle, and the curriculum should be strengthened by decision makers.
