Abstract
In this study, it is aimed to bring an explanation to one of the research questions of archaeology over a settlement that dates back thousands of years and continues to preserve the traditional way of life, forming an ethnographic example. In this context, The process of becoming a settlement area and the reasons for the formation, and change of the settlement texture were investigated during the field research carried out in Nigde/Murtaza village in the Cappadocia Region. The archaeological findings, verbal, and written sources of the village were examined, and the development of the architecture and the settlement texture was investigated through the studies of building survey and geographical information system. Moreover, Fernand Braudel’s approach to analyzing historical processes and Martin Heidegger’s conclusions about why a place may have been built and constructed for different time periods under the concept of “Place and place production practices” made important contributions to the theoretical framework of the research. Within the framework of these approaches, it is aimed to bring a methodological and intellectual explanation to an archaeological problem by analyzing the long-term settlement process of Murtaza Village around social, cultural, economic, political, military events and facts, and geographical conditions.
