Abstract
There are some concepts such as the city that create the common domain of the subjects that people care about. In other words, the city has retained its importance from the past to the present not only as much as architecture, engineering, but also as one of the main areas of interest of the economy, morality, philosophy and religion. Cities are not only places of protection and shelter, but they also have an irrevocable significance for self-realization and moral maturity of the people. First people build cities, then cities build people. The study deals with the utopian tradition developed from one aspect of this mutual relationship. Starting from the utopian tradition of the ancient Greeks until the modern period, it is attempted to make a modest experiment over Bayburt. As a result, it is emphasized that the utopian tradition has become outdated and the vista is gone, but Bayburt may become an alternative way to solve urban problems in Turkey.
