Abstract

The purpose of the research is to examine the effect of a training program directed towards the mothers who have handicapped children. The study conducted on the mothers of mentally retarded children children in 2007-2008 academic years. Experimental model was adopted. 20 parents participated in the study who were grouped as 10 person for the experiment and 10 person for the control groups. A training program for lessening anxiety was applied to the experimental group. At the end of the process, it was examined whether or not any change happened in state and trait anxiety level of the mothers. The results indicate that our training program has an effect on the anxiety level of the aforementioned mothers
