Abstract
Clinical and laboratory findings and antibacterial therapy results were evaluated in 35 children with brucel¬losis (3-14 years). Twenty two patients (62.8%) were male and 13 patients (37.2%) were female. Origins of the disease were uncooked milk or uncooked milk products in all patients. The disease was frequently seen in child¬ren of families who worked with animals. Jhe disease was diagnosed with symptoms, clinical findings and la¬boratory findings (eg. high brucella agglutination titration) of the disease. Fever (80%) and joint pain (57.14%) were the most frequent symptoms. Splenomegaly (45.71%) and hepatomegaly (37.14%) were the most frequent clinical findings. Anaemia and leukopenia was detected in 14.28 % of the cases. Elevated ALT was detected in 20 % of the cases. Rifampin + trimethoprim sulfamethoxazole or tetracyclin + streptomycin orgentamicin + tri-methoprim sulfamethoxazole combination was administered to patients for 4 or 6 weeks. Relapse occured in three children (8.57%). When relapse was occurred, the initial drug combination was changed and other drug combinations treated the patients successfully.
