Abstract

This study was conducted with 504 students who were 16-18 years old. The study was carried out eight different high schools in Amasya, a province of Turkey. The data was collected by the use of a 35 question survey form. The survey questions were prepared by the researchers. Students were given a 35-question survey form and they were asked to reply it. The survey aim to find out to what extent the laboratory support was used in chemistry education. This survey also questioned whether the students were willing to have laboratory practice in chemistry education and whether they believed that the laboratory practice had any effect in the understanding of chemistry subjects. The results showed that laboratory supported education was used in chemistry education but it was not sufficient.. Furthermore this use varied depending on the schools. This variation seems to stem from the number of hours devoted to the chemistry subject. If schools have more chemistry lessons, they are able to carry out laboratory activities. Also, it was found that the students want to have laboratory supported chemistry education and find it useful to learn chemistry. However most of them think it is a waste of time in the final year of high school because they get prepared for the university entrance exam.
