Abstract

The in vitro activity of glycopeptide. antibiotics, teicoplanin and vancomycin was tested against 100 methicillin susceptible and resistant staphylococcus strains isolated from nosocomial infections. All strains were susceptible to both antibiotics. Evaluating the 50 % of all strains; teicoplanin was found 2-4 fold more active than vancomycin, and no difference was found between the minimal inhibitor concentration (MIC) levels of antibiotics against S. aureus or coagulase negative strains. Besides there was no correlation between the glycopeptide activity (MIC values) and methicillin resistance.
