Abstract
The aim of this study is to detect the prevalance of anti-HCV in HD cases with chronic renal failure and to investigate the effects of blood transfusions and dialysis duration on the prevalance. In this study, the prevalance of anti-HCV in HD cases with chronic renal failure and the effects of blood transfusions and dialysis duration on the prevalance and the difference in terms of serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels between the groups of anti-HCV positive and negative patients were investigated. Anti-HCV measurements in all cases were performed by second generation EIA (Murex anti-HCV) method. The prevalance of anti-HCV was found out as 42 % (in 82 of 194 patients). Anti-HCV positivity was detected in 70 of 139 cases (50 %) whose dialysis duration was more than 12 months and, 12 of 55 (22 %) whose dialysis duration less than 12 months (p
