Abstract

In his work Epistulae Morales (Moral Letters), which is one of the most authoritative sources of Roman Stoicism, Seneca not only examines the basic Stoic concepts but also discusses the views of other philosophical schools of antiquity such as Academia or Peripatos and makes us aware of the interpretations of the views of these schools in his own time. Among the letters that stand out in this regard, the Letter 65 occupies an important place in terms of dealing with the subject of causes (causae) in philosophy. So this study will analyze this letter and shed light on which ground Seneca tried to base his doctrine of cause built around the concepts of first cause, god, and efficient or creative reason.
