Abstract
This prework has been carried out in the adult population of Gaziantep region. A total of 473 (276 female, 197 male) magnetic resonance imaging scans, in axial plane, from the archive of a magnetic resonance imaging center were examined to find out the frequency of Cavum Septi Pellucidi (CSP), Cavum Vergae (CV) and Cavum Veli Interpositi (CVI) in normal population, calculate the dimensions of CSP and to compare the findings with the data of previous works and relevant literature. 7 out of 473 cases had the mentioned brain midline cavities (0.14%). Out of 7 cases, 2 had CSP (0.42%), 4 had CV (0.84%) and one had CVI (0.21%). Coincidence was not observed in any of the cases. The height and width of CSP in the present two cases were 21x14 mm and 7x3 mm. it is suggested that the CSP, CV and CVI may be seen in normal population incidentally, the dimensions of them should be considered in pathological processes and their comparisons to the CSP, CV, and CVI rates in psychotic disorders may be important in explaining the association between the abnormalities of brain midline cavities and psychiatric illnesses.
