Abstract

Current account balance is one of the most important economic indicators that reflect the macroeconomic performance of a country. As in many countries, it is one of the most important economic indicators in Turkey. In this study, effects of manufacturing and industry sector on the current account balance of Turkey was estimated separately with two different models of assistance with annual data covering the period 1974- 2017 within the framework of time-series analysis. For this purpose, ADF unit root test was applied and it was determined that the series were stationary (I). After unit root test, Johansen cointegration analysis was applied. Then, FMOLS, CCR and DOLS tests were used to test the long-term cointegration coefficients. According to the results, while there is a long-term relationship between the variables, one-way and two-way causality on the current account balance has been determined from the industry on the current account balance. In the regression analysis, it was concluded that the effect of manufacturing and industry on current account balance was negative and statistically significant.
