Özet

Bu çalışma, Türkiye demir çelik sektörünün rekabet gücünü 2000-2019 dönemi içinüç haneli 9 alt sektör bazında incelemeyi ve sektörün ürün haritalamasını ortayakoymayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada Açıklanmış Mukayeseli Üstünlükler Endeksi(RCA), Açıklanmış Simetrik Mukayeseli Üstünlükler Endeksi (RSCA) ve TicaretDengesi Endeksinden (TBI) yararlanılmış ve Tri Widodo tarafından geliştirilen ÜrünHaritalaması yöntemine başvurulmuştur. Bu çalışma literatürdeki diğer çalışmalardanfarklı olarak, üç haneli alt sektörler bazında sektörün ürün haritalamasını ortayakoymaktadır. Yapılan değerlendirme sonucunda 9 alt sektörden üç tanesinin (SITC676, SITC 678 ve SITC 679) mukayeseli üstünlüğe sahip net ihracatçı, 2 tanesinin(SITC 671 ve SITC 675) mukayeseli dezavantaja sahip net ithalatçı, 2 tanesinin(SITC 672 ve SITC 673) son yıllarda mukayeseli üstünlüğe sahip olmasına karşın netithalatçı sektörler olduğu gözlenmiştir. 2000 yılında karşılaştırmalı dezavantaja sahipnet ithalatçı sektör durumunda olan SITC 674 alt sektörü ise 2018 ve 2019 yıllarındamukayeseli üstünlüğe sahip net ihracatçı sektör yapısıyla dikkat çekmektedir. SITC677 alt sektörü ise net ihracatçı olmasına karşın mukayeseli dezavantaja sahiptir

Abstract

This study examines the competitiveness of Turkey’s iron and steel industry from 2000 to 2019 based on the nine three-digit sub-sectors and reveals the product mapping of this industry. In the study, the revealed comparative advantage index (RCA), the revealed symmetric comparative advantage index (RSCA), and the trade balance index (TBI) were used, and the product mapping method developed by Tri Widodo was employed. As its most significant contribution to the literature, this study analyzes the product mapping of Turkey’s iron and steel industry. It has been observed that three of the nine sub-sectors (SITC 676, SITC 678, and SITC 679) are net exporters with comparative advantage; two (SITC 671 and SITC 675) are net importers with comparative disadvantage, and two (SITC 672 and SITC 673) are net importers although they have had a comparative advantage in recent years. SITC 674, which was a net importer with comparative disadvantage in 2000, became a net exporter with comparative advantage in 2018 and 2019. Conversely, SITC 677 has comparative disadvantage despite being a net exporter
