Abstract

Objective: Te aim of this study was to conduct a costanalysis in patients treated with partial laryngectomysurgery due to laryngeal carcinoma. Methods: Te length of stay, complication rates, decan-nulation time, time to initiate oral nutrition, costs of ex-amination, medication costs and total cost were assessedby investigating the records and bills of 26 patients withlarynx squamous-cell carcinoma treated with frontolat-eral, supraglottic and supracricoid laryngectomy surgeryin the Ear-Nose-Troat Clinic of the Şişli Etfal Re -search and Training Hospital between January 2007 andDecember 2011. Results: Frontolateral laryngectomy was performed in11 of 26 patients, supraglottic laryngectomy was per-formed in 8 of these patients and supracricoid laryngec -tomy was performed in 7 of these patients. Complica-tions were observed in one of these 26 patients. Whenthe costs of diagnostic tests/treatments of these threesurgical methods were compared, supracricoid laryn-gectomy was found to be the most expensive method(p
