Efect of sleep position and body mass index on severity of sleep apnea

Özet
Amaç: Polisomnografide tıkayıcı tipte uyku apnesi sap -tanan olguların yatış pozisyonu ve vücut kitle indekleri-nin uyku apnesine etkisinin incelenmesi planlandı.Yöntemler: Tıkayıcı tipte uyku apnesi saptanan apne-hi-popne indeksi (AHİ) >5 51 erişkin olgunun uyku çalış-maları geriye dönük olarak incelendi. Olgular vücut kitleindekslerine göre obez vücut kitle indeksi (VKİ) >30 kg/m2 ve obez olmayan (VKİ0.05). Uyku ev-releri açısından obez ve obez olmayan grupların; supinve supin olmayan pozisyonlarındaki AHİ NREMdefarklılık göstermemekte fakat REMde AHİleri kötü -leşmekte idi. Abstract
Objective: To examine the efects of sleep position andbody mass index on obstructive events in adults with ob -structive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS).Methods: Te sleep studies of 51 adults with OSAS (ap -nea-hypopnea index >5/h) were retrospectively evaluat-ed. Te study population was classifed into obese (bodymass index (BMI) >30 kg/m 2) and non-obese (BMI0.05). Tere was no statistically signifcantdiference between non-obese cases and the supine andnon-supine values of the obese subjects (p>0.05). Terewas no diference in the AHI index in the obese andnon-obese group in the supine and non-supine positionand in NREM periods (p>0.05). Te AHI was worsein REM periods.
