Abstract

Aim: To determine the effect of the headache prophylaxy treatment for migraine on the visual field analysis. Material and Methods: Migraine patients, who are followed up by Neurology department at least for three years, and the normal subjects, with no systemic and the ocular problems other than the refractive error, are included in the study. Migraine patients with no visual aura were not included in the study. Migraine patients were divided into two groups as those who were re-ceiving prophylaxy therapy at least for one year (n:32) and those who never received such treatment (n:42). Subjects underwent the perimetric analysis twice using central 30-2 full threshold program. Visual field mean sensitivities (MS), mean deviation (MD) and the corrected pattern standard deviation (CPSD) values of the each subject were assessed. MS of 3°, 15°, 21° ve 27° visual field eccentries were compared. Results: The mean age of the normal (n: 45) and the migraine subjects (n: 74) were 43.0 ± 13.0 years and 44.1 ± 11.7 years, respectively (p>0.05). The mean intraocular pressure of three groups were found not to be different (p>0.05). The visual field mean MS value of the migraine patients was found to be significantly lower than that of the normal subjects (p
