Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the clinical application and results of intraocular lens (IOL) implantation with the unfolder lens injection system. Material and Methods: We implanted Array SA40N or SensarAR40e IOL to the 80 eyes of 62 patients during cataract surgery. The follow up period was 8.48 ± 0.92 months. Surgically induced astigmatism, uncorrected and best corrected visual acuity, surgical technique and complications were evaluated. Results: The best corrected visual acuity was at least 0.7 or better in all of the patients; the average uncorrected visual acuity was 0.69 ± 0.25, the best corrected acuity was 1.02 ± 0.15. Surgically induced astigmatism was 0.62 ± 0.46 @ 23. IOL implantation with the unfolder system was performed through a 3mm corneal incision in all cases. During the implantation 4 IOLs (5%) were implanted front side back, and we have experienced posterior capsule tear in 1 case(1.25%). IOL damage didn't occur during the implantations. All the IOL implantations were performed with success, and the IOLs were centralized and in-the-bag. Discussion: After a short learning period, IOL implantation with the unfolder could be do¬ne with success and ease. The system is suitable for the small incision cataract surgery and there is no need for a manipulator for the IOL implantation and centralization.
