Kontrol grubundaki ortalama BUT değeri ise 18.3 ± 3.2 sn idi.
Abstract
Objective: Assessment of tear functions in glaucoma patients that have been treated with prostaglandin analogues - Latanoprost (Xalatan), Bimatoprost (Lumigan), Travoprost (Travatan) -since more than one year and comparing the 3 drugs. Materials and Methods: The subjects being treated with proştaglandins were assigned to three groups as users of Latanoprost, Bimatoprost, Travoprost. The patients with surgical procedure, history of trauma, pathology of anterior segment and using contact lenses or artificial tears were not included. Schirmer 1 test was performed for 76 eyes of 38 patients from three groups and 40 eyes of 20 normal subjects for control and tear break-up times (BUT) were measured. All of the measurements were made 3 times with intervals (one month) and the mean values were determined. The results were compared statistically. Results: The mean Schirmer 1 test values were respectively 15.5 ± 5.8 mm, 14.7 ± 6.7 mm and 15.9 ± 5.9 mm in the groups of Latanoprost, Bimatoprost and Travoprost. Schirmer 1 test value was 20.05 ± 4.4 mm for the control group. The mean tear film BUT values were respectively 13.7 ±5.6 sec, 13.6 ± 5.3 sec. and 14.9 ± 6.4 sec. in the groups of Latanoprost, Bimtop-rost and Travoprost. The mean tear film BUT value of the control group was 18.3 ± 3.2 seconds. The differences and comparing of the three groups with each other and control group was not statistically signficant. (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was seen that, in the treatment of glaucoma using all of three prostaglandin analogues, the tear functions are not affected significantly and the effects of three drugs (Xalatan, Lumigan, Travatan) on tear functions are not different.
