Abstract

The lateral ventricles are deeply located cavities surrounded by the thalamus. The lateral ventricles consist of frontal, temporal, occipital horns, atrium and body and open to the third ventricle through the foramen Monroe. The third ventricle is opened to thefourth ventricle by the aquaductus cerebri. The fourth ventricle is connected to the cisterna magna with the foramen of Magendieand the cerebellopontine angle through the foramina of Luschka. In surgical procedures for ventricular lesions, normal tissues willbe on the surgical route to reach the ventricle. Therefore, knowledge of the anatomy of the white and gray matter and the arterialand venous structures on the surgical route is necessary. In this study, arterial feeding, venous drainage and neighborhood of whitematter structures of the ventricles are explained in detail using illustrations, cadaver dissections and autopsy specimens.
