Üç bin yüz otuz sekiz serum örneğindeanti-T. gondii IgM araştırılmış olup, 80’i (%2.5) pozitif, 11’i (%0.4) ara değer bulunmuştur.

Abstract

Objective: Toxoplasmosis is one of the most common parasitic zoonoses worldwide caused by the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii. Because T. gondii organisms are rarely detected in humans, serologic tests are used to indicate the presence of the infection by searching for Toxoplasma-specific antibodies. The aim of this study was to evalute the results of anti-T. gondii IgG, anti-T. gondii IgM and T. gondii IgG avidity tests which were performed on serum samples obtained from patients in the laboratory during a one-year period. Method: We evaluated a total of 4089 serum sample results as for the presence of anti-T. gondii IgG, 3138 for anti-T. gondii IgM and 90 for T. gondii IgG avidity. Results: Of the 4089 serum samples in which presence of anti-T. gondii IgG antibodies was investigated, 1216 (29.7%) samples yielded positive results and 39 (1.0%) of them demonstrated intermediate anti-T. gondii IgG antibody-positivities. Out of the 3138 serum samples, 80 (2.5%) samples were anti-T. gondii IgM positive and while 11 (0.4%) samples demonstrated intermediate anti-T. gondii IgM posiitvities. Among the samples tested positive for T. gondii IgG and positive/intermediate for IgM, 57.1% had high avidity, 14.3% of them borderline and 28.6% low -avidity antibodies. Conclusion: In this study, it was found that seropositivity was low (29%) in women. Therefore, it has been considered that screening of women especially in the fertility age group for toxoplasmosis serology is important.
