Abstract

A 44-year-old female patient was admitted tothe hospital due to shortness of breath, shivering, and fever (38.3°C).She had undergone mitral valve replacement for rheumatic heart disease with severe mitral stenosis 11 months earlier. She had repeatedlybeen hospitalized in the previous 2 monthswith a recurrent fever, exercise tolerance deterioration with a decrease in body weightof 6 kg, and increased inflammatory parameters.
