Abstract

Objective: To compare serum high density lipoprotein (HDL) and associated sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) levels between hypertensive and normotensive pregnant women and to study likely effect of these parameters on the development of hypertension.Design: A comparative cohort study. Setting: This prospective study was conducted between December 2008 and March 2009 at department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Suleyman Demirel University, Isparta.Interventions: Plasma S1P and HDL levels were analyzed. Material and methods: S1P levels and HDL levels were analyzed by ELISA. Results: Forty normotensive and 40 hypertensive pregnant women was included to the study. Demographical and obstetrical characteristics of patients were similar. SP1 and HDL levels were 0,6±0.32 nM and 61.6±15.3 mg/dl in hypertensive pregnant women. SP1 and HDL levels were 2,1±10.8 nM and 60.2±14.4 mg/dl in normotensive pregnant women. There was no statistically significant difference between groups. Conclusion: We concluded that further studies are needed to evaluate the effects of HDL and associated S1P upon the vascular tonus in hypertensive diseases of pregnancies.
