Abstract
In this paper, prenatal and postnatal developments of mice skins were examined histologically and histochemically by using light microscopy. For determining different structures of skin hemotoxylen-eosin, AZAN, Orcein and PAS stain methods were used. In adults, epidermis was rather thin and had fewer layers. Epidermis of new-born mice were thinner than fetal epidermis. In fetus the epitheloid cell tissue to be developed to epidermis was rather thick. Also the keratin layer on the epidermis was inconspicous in fetus. Whereas it was fairly thick in newborn and then it became thinner in adults. The epidermis-dermis margin was squamous in the beginning of tissue growth. It become gradually evident throughout postnatal development. Dermis was composed of cells and fibers of connective tissue. The cells of connective tissue were numerous in prenatal period. Collagen fibers which began to grow in prenatal period also continued to their development in postnatal period, then they obtained adult properties. The elastic fibers which were not determined in fetus and newborn skins were scarce in adults. Also in spite of abundancy of hair follicules and sebaceous glands in adults, sweat glands were rare. Sweat glands were absent in fetus and newborn.
