Abstract
ABSTRACT In this study, economic and social development levels of provinces are determined based on 31 variables. The primary purpose of the study is to determine the basic factors underlying socioeconomic development by factor analysis and economic and social level of development of provinces are investigated. At the same time, the other purpose of the study is to compare the socio-economic development levels of the provinces and the results of local elections. As a result of factor analysis, two factors as ‘‘economic development’’ and ‘‘social development indicators’’ were obtained. Although a relationship between the socio-economical level of development of the provinces and the vote distributions in local elections may be observed, it can be concluded that the main factor that determines the distributions of the votes, even if the election is a local one, is not the level of development of the city but the political view of the population. However, as a result of the discriminant analysis, the location of the political parties according to the socioeconomic variables were determined according to the 2014 local election results.
