Ayrıca sığırlar üzerinden Hyalomma marginatum, H. a. analolicum, H. a. excavatum türleri toplanmıştır.
Abstract
This study was carried out to estimate the annual economic impact of tropical theileriosis in areas around Kayseri. For this purpose the sera of a total of 717 cattle were examined microscopically and tested using IFAT for Theileria annulata infections between May 1997 and November 1998. At the same time the animals were also examined for tick infestation and the ticks were collected. During the field studies, cattle, which were acutely infected with T. annulata were also investigated. The results of the study showed that 59.29% of the cattle were carriers of piroplasmic forms of T. annulata and 60.66% of the cattle were seropozitive for T. annulata in Develi, Yahyalı, Yeşilhisar and incesu regions of Kayseri. Moreover, the tick species, Hyalomma marginatum, H. a. anatolicum, and H. a. excavatum, were also found on the cattle. The results of the study have shown that Develi, Yahyalı, Yeşilhisar and İncesu regions were an endemic stable zone for 7'. annulata. In the endemic stable zone, 87 cattle were found to be severely infected with 7". annulata and they showed clinical signs of acute tropical theileriosis during two consequent theileriosis seasons. The severely infected cattle were treated with buparvaqoune at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg body weight. However, 34 out of the 87 cattle died but the rest recovered. The economical losses due to tropical theileriosis in the endemic region were estimated as direct production losses and indirect losses. At the end of the study, the economic losses resulting from the tropical theileriosis were estimated to be approximately 195,000,000,000 TL corresponding to 130,000 US $ in the endemic stable zone of Kayseri during two subsequent theileriosis seasons. This is the first report that states the economical losses caused by tropical theileriosis in Turkey.
