Abstract

The purpose of the current study was to determine the agreement of the commonly used commercial ELISA IgG kit with IFA IgG and ELISA IgG kits prepared in our laboratory and to compare the costs. Parasite specific IgG antibodies were investigated in a total of 103 sera from suspected cases of toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasma antibodies were detected in 48 (46, 60%) sera by the IFA IgG lest, in 43 (4L 75%) by the ELISA IgG test, and in 45 (43, 70%;) by the commercial ELISA IgG kit. As a result of the study, a very good, positive and significant agreement was found between any two of the kits. The cost of the commercial ELISA IgG kit with one hole is approximately 2 dollars. However, ihe cost of the ELISA and IFA tests with 2 holes prepared in our laboratory is 10 cents and 5 cents per patient, respectively. As a result of the current study, we concluded that use of ihe kits prepared in our laboratory is reliable and cost effective.
