Abstract

Valvular heart disease as cardiac involvement in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) s a rare complication. The aortic valve is most commonly affected in patients with systemic onset or in the presence of seropositivity which can lead to aortic valve replacement further. There are only a few cases reported with mitral involve¬ment always associated with pericarditis.' We report a 9-year-old boy with both mitral and aortic insufficiency without pericarditis attributable to seronegative polyarticular onset URA. As cardiac involvement can occur at any time regardless of the severity and the type of the disease, regular cardiac examination should be per¬formed to patients with JRA.
