Abstract

This study was conducted during 2002-2003 in Adana and Osmaniye to determine the effect of Raphanus sativus L. on the growth of corn (Zea mays L.) and the allelopathic effect of Raphanus sativus L. on weeds that is a problem in Zea mays L. R. sativus was sowed in September 2002 and R. sativus was mixed in soil when it became mature. Pioneer (32-23) Maize species was sowed to plots which have been prepared earlier. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with four applications in three blocks of 5x5 = 25 m2 plots. During the experiment, four wooden frames were thrown per plot which has been conducted earlier parameters as the number of monocotyledon and dicotyledon weeds in 1 m2, general weed coverage, the plant height and coverage of corn were noted. Also, after the harvest of corn, parameters as the 1000-grain yield and the average yield of field were note. As a result of the experiment, compared to the plots that we call control and where raddish has never been sowed (containg 100% raddish, 50% raddish and totally harevested raddish), was found to have reduced general weed coverage. Raddish aplications that has been mixed at different rates in soil compare to control was found that it reduced the number of monocotyledon and dicotyledon weeds in 1 m2. When the effect of these applications on crop plant was examined; while no effect on crop plant's height and coverage was found, it is found that raddish aplications increases the 1000 grain weight and yield. Its effect on biomass of crop plant, compared to plots where raddish has not been sowed before, is found to be less in raddish aplication.
