Abstract

The shoulder joint is attached to the axial skeleton. It is freely mobile as we can reach anywhere, while it is very stable as well. This joint has the widest range of motion in the body and it is resistant to compression and distraction forces owing to the compatibility between the glenoid and the humerus. Primary osteoarthritis of the glenohumeral joint is rare and occurs mostly due to secondary causes. In this review, glenohumeral joint functional anatomy and the diseases which cause glenohumeral joint osteoarthritis are described.
