Özet
Ateş, acil servise en sık başvuru nedenlerinden birisidir. Ateşetiyolojisinin belirlenmesinde hastanın kapsamlı öyküsünün alınması bir zorunluluktur. Yakın zamanda bu hastalığın yaygınolduğu ülkeye seyahat eden hastalarda ateş nedeninin yaygınbir nedeni sıtmadır. Ateş ve seyahat hikâyesi ile başvuran has- talarda muhtemel sıtma için araştırılması kuvvetle tavsiye edil-mektedir. Bu olgu sunumunda, 29 yaşındaki erkek Sudan’dananavatanı Türkiye’ye döndükten sonra ateş şikâyeti ile acil ser-vise başvurmuştur. Kapsamlı bir hikâye alınmasından sonra, hastanın Falciparum sıtmasının endemik olduğu bir bölgedeişçi olarak çalıştığı öğrenildi. Akabinde ona sıtma tanısı kondu ve başarı ile tedavi edildi.
Abstract
One of the most frequent presenting complaints to the emergency department (ED) is fever. Obtaining a thorough patient history is imperative when determining fever etiology. Malaria is a common cause of fever in patients that have recently traveled abroad in a country where this disease is prevalent. As such it is highly recom- mended that patients who present with fever and history of travel are worked up for possible malaria. In this case study, a 29-year- old male presented to the ED with fever after returning back to his home country of Turkey from Sudan. Upon taking a thorough his- tory, it was found that the patient had been working in a region in which Falciparum malaria is endemic. He was subsequently diag- nosed with malaria and was treated successfully.
