Özet
Bostancıbaşı mahbesi, Yenisaray’a ait Hasbahçedeydi. Saray surlarının dâhilinde ve aynı zamanda bostancı ocağına ait birçok binanın yer aldığı Yalı Köşkü kapısı ile Demirkapı arasındaki mıntıkada bulunan mahbes, kaynaklarda değişik adlarla geçmektedir. Bostancı ocağına ait fırının bir kısmından oluşan mahbes, burada bulunan hamamlarla bölükbaşıların odalarının yakınında bulunmaktaydı. Gerek suçluların ortaya çıkarılması için burada uygulanan işkence, gerekse bir idam infaz memuru olan bostancıbaşı adının uyandırdığı imaj, mahbesi zanlılar için korkunç bir yer yapmaya yetiyordu. Burası, devletin ikinci adamı olan sadrazamlar dâhil, en alt tabakadan en üst tabakaya kadar suç işleyen hemen hemen her kesimden insanın mahpusluk yaşadığı bir hapishaneydi.
Abstract
The bostanjibashi mahbes was in the Hasbahçe (the khass bagcha: the private garden of the Sultan’s palace) which belongs to the Yenisaray. The mahbes located in the place within the palace ramparts which are between the Yalı Köşkü Kapısı (the door of Yali Kiosk) and the Demirkapı which was at the same time a loot of the bostancı ocağı's (bostanji ojaq) buildings, passes in the sources with different names. The mahbes which consists of a part of fırın (oven) was located in the near of the hammams (Turkish barth) and the rooms of bölükbaşıs (bulukbashi: an inspector or sergeant of police). Both the torture which was carried out there for disclosured guilty people and the image aroused by the name of bostanjibashi who was a officer to execute were enough to make the mahbes a terrible place for the suspects.
