Abstract

In this research, it is aimed at examining the effect of multiple intelligence theory on academic achievement of ninth grade students in Geography lesson. Pre- post tests and control group are used, and participants were selected from Ankara Keçiören High School. In experimental group of this study, the subjects are taught in terms of multiple intelligence theory procedures, whereas, in control group traditional teaching methods are conducted. The teachers, students, and the counselors were informed about multiple intelligence theory before the implementation process. “External Forces” subject was taught for 4 weeks to the experiment group in a learning environment enriched by the tools appropriate for the multiple intelligence theory procedures. In the analysis part of the achievement test scores about “External Forces”; pre test, post test average points were calculated, t- test was used to compare the groups. The findings revealed that there is a significant difference in academic achievement of control and experiment groups. Teaching Geography in ninth classes, multiple Intelligence theory is more effective than teacher centered model (instructions, question and answer). Therefore, teaches can increase their students’ achievement by using the multiple intelligence model.
