Her iki.
Abstract
The 1912 Balkan War, the most dramatic period in Ottoman History, is considered the most important event in the gradual decline of the Empire, leading to the retreat from Europe, with the exception of Istanbul The Ottoman government which had ruled this territory, which Mehmet the Conqueror had. aimed to be the Emperor öf the two Roman states and Suleiman the Magnificent had dominated, was forced by ex-subjects to retreat to Çatalca near Istanbul. The tragedy of this drastic defeat is still fresh in the memories of Turkish and Muslim people who had lived in the Balkans for 500 years. When the Second Balkan War erupted among the Balkan states that could not share the Ottoman heritage, the Ottoman State took back Edirne and Eastern Thrace by getting involved in the War. The Western Thrace, with a population consisting mostly of Turks and Muslims, was occupied by Bulgarians who were defeated at other fronts. A militia action in Western Thrace succeeded against Bulgarian forces, who in turn took revenge against these unarmed civilians. Kuşçubaşı Eşref, who knew the war tactics well, commanded the militia forces, and he would later establish "Teskilat-i Mahsusa" (Intelligence Agency). When Kuşçubaşı Eşref's military success annoyed the Ottoman Government as well as the Bulgarians, he declared his independence by establish-hing the Western Thrace Turkish Republic, but the new state lasted for only 56 days due to pressures from the Ottomans and Bulgarians.
