Abstract
It was a crucial historical event that Turkish was declared to be the official language and other languages were forbidden at the imperial council, which was held after Karamanoglu Mehmet Bey invaded Konya, which was the capital city of the Seljuks. Although there is no evidence whether the decision was put into effect, there occurred lots of questions about why Karamanoglu Mehmet Bey declared Turkish as the official language. However, any study conducted to answer this question remained inconclusive. In the center of the debates are these; the decision was taken by the imperial council, not by Karamanoglu Mehmet Bey, was it really desirable to make Turkish language as the official language, and last of all the decision was taken as a reaction to the Persian (Mongol) Emirs who were public officials speaking and writing in Persian.
